ROW80 – ROWin’ Reunion!

And, how have you been?

No, this isn’t your imagination….although I have been nearly absent from ROW80 updating for the last several weeks, here I am, ready to make an accounting of myself…

While I was away, I was writing. I completed theCamp NaNoWriMo August challenge. I wrote the children’s reports.

I was reading, mostly my own very old drafts ofTrueborn, the novel I wrote in my late teens and early twenties, and where my original characters were born.

I was living – August contains my anniversary, and an unschooling conference that is the highlight of our summer travel and social season….

There was a trip to the state museum, and yesterday, September 2, was Jeremiah’s eleventh birthday, and the day was largely spent in celebrating him…

So I haven’t been here, visibly, but I have been busy and growing…

So now that most of the travel and reporting is behind me, it’s time to make an accounting of my last weeks….

Goals for ROW80 ROWnd 3, 2012

WIP Novels:

Trueborn Series

  • Trueborn:
  • Reread current rough drafts from 1998-9ish and 2000.
  • I have completed rereading the spiral-bound draft.
  • This goal has been attained.
  • Chameleon’s Dish:
  • Complete basic research based upon library books and websites; looking for information to enhance later digging and prevent hugely obvious gaffes).
  • I continued to read Shakespeare’s England; which is the final book in my initial research run. I am currently on page 230 of 249.
  • To Be or Not to Be:
  • This is my August Camp NaNoWriMo project.
  • I verified my 75,088 word total on August 31, 2012.
  • Although the draft is wandering a bit at the moment and only about halfway written, I met the 50,000 word challenge in 10 days, which is AWESOME!!!

Homeschool Administration Ad Infinitum….:

  • Fourth Quarter reports for both children (due Sept. 1).
  • The rough drafts of both children’s reports are completed, and have been sent to the school district.
  • This goal has been attained.
  • End of Year Narrative for Lise (due Sept. 1).
  • I completed the base report at NEUC, and submitted it to a review panel of other unschooling parents.
  • Jim took the signed report to the post office on Thursday.
  • This goal has been attained.
  • Standardized Test for Miah (due Sept.1).
  • Jeremiah has completed his testing, and we have mailed it back to the testing energy for scoring.
  • We have received Jeremiah’s scores, and I have reported the composite percentage score to the school district.
  • This goal has been attained.
  • Begin setting up portfolios for both children – invite them to be a part of this process! =)
  • No system making lately, but I have been gathering materials and photographs of our activities.
  • Relax, enjoy, learn, grow, laugh, and … BREATHE!
  • There have been some tense moments during these busy weeks, but there has been far more of the above.
  • I feel that we are doing fairly well at meeting this goal, at this point.

Other Writing:

  • Write at 750 Words every day, with possible hiatuses for Unschoolers Rock the Campground (July 12-16); Learn Nothing Day (July 24); Northeast Unschooling Conference (August 23-7; and kids’ birthdays (July 8, September 2).On my birthday (July 29), I WRITE!!!
  • I have written every day, except three days of NEUC, when there was simply too much in my mind, and my life, to settle and write.
  • Use 750 Words for whatever – flash pieces, essays, venting, ranting, reports, book reviews, etc.
  • I have used this space exclusively for my NaNo WIP throughout August.

Organizing/Tootling my Horn…

  • Set aside time each week to winnow email. Read items being saved for later reading, sort or dispose as indicated.
  • I have done a fairly good job of keeping the email down, but haven’t winnowed any folders during this busy month.
  • Be bold and daring in commenting, sharing, and submitting. Declare myself, learn, grow, and sometimes do things that make me uncomfortable. Open and blossom!
  • I’ve been working and wordsprinting through #ROW80 on Twitter, and through the August Camp NaNoWriMo Facebook page.
  • This was definitely stretching, for me!

Celebrating Life!:

  • Add some form of specific motion (t’ai chi, swimming, hiking, biking, skating, dancing, etc) to each week. Keep track of what, where, when, for how long, and how I felt during and after.
  • I have been moving – walking, swimming, stretchinh, and dancing, mostly – as well as some hometending and weeding.
  • I haven’t done as well at keeping track of times, but my knee is feeling much better, and I am noticing that my biceps and quadriceps, in particular, are feeling firmer, and my whole body is feeling more alive.
  • Fill us all up with joy, and continue cultivating family peace.
  • I’m doing much better at this, overall.
  • I am more relaxed, more of the time, and doing a better job of meeting my own needs, which helps me to have the resources to help others meet theirs, as well.
  • I have facilitated new acquisitions, trips, experiences, and connections for all of us.
  • We continue to learn how to deal with conflict through negotiation and compromise, and attending to each other.
  • Spend time cleaning and beautifying my personal internal and external spaces each week.
  • Less external than internal cleanup during these last, very busy weeks.
  • I am approaching another period of deeper clarity, and tending to the homeschool administration has allowed space for this awareness to grow.
  • Deeper clarity often comes through increased home and yardtending, for me, so I expect my external spaces may soon undergo a transformation…
  • Embrace and be present in all my moments.
  • Still working toward this one, by being present as often as I remember, and by breathing and releasing expectations.
  • Allow my emotions to be as they are. Practice expressing them calmly and reflectively.
  • I am, overall, getting better at this. I still have more reactive moments that I would prefer, but they are milder, more conscious and I am better able to regain control more quickly.
  • Tend kindly and sweetly to myself and others. =)
  • I am doing fairly well at this, and continuously striving to do better.

So, there is my accounting of my progress over the last several weeks.

What’s next?

Well, since I took on the unplanned NaNo Challenge, several other goals were set aside. There were several goals that weren’t really working for me, and there are others that became less important to me, during the last weeks…

So there will be some changes coming over the last days of this ROWnd. Some goals will be eliminated, others broken into smaller and more manageable pieces, and others reshaped into something that better meets my needs.

And I will continue with the goals I’ve been working on, and pick up some that have been waiting for a while….

And there will be writing, and growth, and joy….

I’m looking forward to peeking in one some of you here…it’s a blog hop!

Wow, I’m breathless just reading this. Congrats on completing the August NaNo! And I love all your “life” goals and accomplishments, especially the idea of being present in all your moments.

      Tia –

Thank you! When I am feeling overwhelmed with all I have gotten myself into, and am feeling like I am floundering, a comment like this is a lifeline.

Sorry I was so overwhelmed that I am only telling you how you lifted me, now, a month later!

This round, I am seriously simplifying, and it feels good and right and liberating. =D
