Autumnal ROW – ROW80 Update, 9/2/12

What transistions are happening in your life?

Autumn is a transitional time, here, by its nature. And so it is here, with major and minor upheavals. We need to replace Miah’s operating system for his new laptop.

We fear our beloved feline friend, Margot, has died – she seemed suddenly very thin and weak, and, although we thought we had her contained indoors, she managed to get outside, and we think she has gone off to do what country kitties do – die in private, simply vanishing from our lives.

We hope it isn’t so – Margot is possessed of a sweet and unobtrusive nature, and is a consummate mouser. Still, there has been some discussion about a potential pair of kittens, if she does not return…

We’ve been out in the changing air, and have turned off the air conditioners, flung wide the windows in the daylight, to go round a few hours later closing them against a distinct chill in the air – but the weatherman says that it will be hot again, soon…

Leaves are just beginning their colorful transformation, and I have heard several flocks of Canada geese caronking across the sky.

I’m beginning to think of firewood, and attending to the decluttering of our indoor spaces, which will soon be our focus…and all of us have begun to feel a renewed desire to prepare hot foods and drinks…

Both children are growing and maturing. Lise is suddenly very interested in her appearance, and is dressing with great attention to the fashionability of her choices. Miah spent quite a bit of time with snap circuit projects, and a Soul Card Club he is evolving a little each day. Both have had ideas on items they could sell at the Untrepreneaurial Fair at the Northeast Unschooling Conference next year.

I’m sure there will be more transitions and shifts as we move through this energetic season….for now, though, this is enough.

And now, for my ROW80 progress for September 10, 2012.

Goals have been modified for this round.

Essay WIPs:

  • Compile list for possible ebook collection (by theme; just brainstorming at present).
  • I have continued to go through The Unfettered Life; tagging posts that seem like likely candidates, and sending them to my Facebook Writer Page.
  • A rough idea of concept and topic headings is beginning to emerge as I move through this process.

Homeschool Administration Ad Infinitum….:

  • IHIPs for both children (due four weeks after receipt of packet from school district).
  • I am continuing to edit and add links.
  • I have done the English Language Arts and Arithmetic sections for both children.
  • We have yet to receive the packet the school was required to send 10 business days after receiving our letters of intent on June 26.

  • Relax, enjoy, learn, grow, laugh, and … BREATHE!
  • Yup!
  • Jim took both children to a bounce house, through a local mall, and to Pizza Hut for dinner.
  • I took them to Tugboat Roundup, where we ate carnival food and saw many tugs of various sizes; barges; the Onrust, New York’s first yacht; a paddlewheel riverboat; many breeds of dogs; and many craft and art products.
  • I am helping Jeremiah with a computer issue, and Annalise to pursue several arts and crafts projects.

Reading:

  • Continue reading and commenting on blogposts and articles, during times of gathering input..
  • I read several political articles, which I do not wish to share here.

Other Writing:

  • Use 750 Words for whatever – flash pieces, essays, venting, ranting, reports, book reviews, etc.
  • I have continued to work onTo Be or Not To Be my WIP novel.

Blogging/Connecting:

  • The Unfettered Life:
  • Begin considering a (slightly) more structured organizational system for this blog.
  • I have given this a little consideration, as I am currently reviewing posts for the essay project detailed above.
  • I am considering adding pages and corresponding category tags, which will separate reports and administration; philosophy; and day-to-day life.
  • Organizing/Tootling my Horn…
  • Choose a new notebook; input into Penzu.
  • I am currently on page 19 of 140.

  • Set aside time each week to winnow email. Read items being saved for later reading, sort or dispose as indicated.
  • I am continuing to keep my incoming messages to somewhere close to 50 unread messages.
  • I am doing less well at reading emails, and have not read or winnowed anything from my folders.

  • Be bold and daring in commenting, sharing, and submitting. Declare myself, learn, grow, and sometimes do things that make me uncomfortable. Open and blossom!
  • I have commented on one post, and have gotten into the thick of several debates on Facebook.
  • I am continuing on with my NaNo novel, as noted above.
  • I am considering joining the October NaPoWriMo Challenge.

  • Celebrating Life!
  • Add some form of specific motion (t’ai chi, swimming, hiking, biking, skating, dancing, etc) to each week. Keep track of what, where, when, for how long, and how I felt during and after.
  • I have been engaged mostly in hometending.
  • I began, in a very mellow way, a long-term deep cleaning and reorganization project in the garage. We need a place to keep our winter’s firewood (currently, most is sitting in front of the garage door, at the mercy of the weather), and Jim’s motorcycle, as well as having access to the garage for the projects Jim and the children enjoy outtering with there.
  • At Tugboat Roundup, we walked perhaps a couple of miles back and forth along the Erie Canal and the village of Waterford.

  • Fill us all up with joy, and continue cultivating family peace.
  • Yes, to the best of my ability. I added an unexpected playground visit, said yest to some new treasures, explained the realities of our modest budget, helped resolve several conflicts peaceably, and assisted with problems, in addition to the hugs, snuggles, conversations, and time spent together, at home and elsewhere.
  • Considering that this was the first week of school in our area, and, instead of being there, Miah and Lise got to enjoy a variety of independent and group adventures, projects, and entertainments, I think there was quite a bit of joy here!

  • Spend time cleaning and beautifying my personal internal and external spaces each week.
  • Working a little on the external spaces.
  • More on the internal spaces- thoughts and emotions are coalescing into new revelations and further deepening. I like it. It’s good. =D

  • Embrace and be present in all my moments.
  • Still getting better at this. I have a feeling it’s a lifelong ambition…

  • Allow my emotions to be as they are. Practice expressing them calmly and reflectively.
  • I am doing fairly well at this. Still learning, still practicing riding the waves of my hormones and emotions.

  • Tend kindly and sweetly to myself and others. =)
  • Getting better at this – and there is always room for more kindness and sweetness!

So, we are hoping that Margot will return home, and that we can help her to grow strong and well again.

And we are going about the business of our lives, while keeping her in our thoughts and of course keeping our eyes open. We all know that our pets won’t live as long as we are likely to…and so there will be partings that to us seem to soon, but which came in the fulness of time.

We will try, if we do not see her again, to focus on the many sweet years we enjoyed with her, and that, with the exception of the last few frightening days, we have given her a good , free, and happy cat life.

If you’re so inclined, please think peaceful thoughts, say a prayer, or give your own non-human family members a little extra love and affection in honor of Margot the Manx – a truly cherished friend.
