I will understand how to use the basic features of WordPress to streamline and target shanjeniah and Trueborn Jottings to more appealingly and efficiently fulfill their purposes.

  • Some minor experimentations with the blog comment prompt. It didn’t work out as I had planned. More reading before retry.

I have a plan for each of my three major blogs – a mission statement, an action plan, and a schedule for blogging and design improvements. The schedule can be flexible, and I will be accountable for it. I answer comments on a regular, posted schedule.

  • I have the beginnings of a mission statement and related musings for each blog.

  • Shanjeniah

  • Two more in-depth freewritings – the very beginnings of an action plan.

I will consider how to best approach what may be the mammoth task of moving The Unfettered Life over from its longtime home at Blogger (is it worth the money to have WordPress do this for me?).

  • Considering the $249 cost of moving the blog as a possible expense, and weighing, in my mind, the value to me of moving the blog in a no -worries way vs. what I might learn, in attempting to move it myself.

  • My son, Jeremiah, age 11, has agreed to do some preliminary research, and perhaps to help me move the blog. He enjoys research and is adept at doing his own on a variety of topics. I will pay him, and he will verify and send me links.

I know what I want from my writing, and what I want my writing to reveal. I am building a mental and emotional image of myself as a professional writer who embraces the business and creative aspects of the process capably and passionately.

  • Allowing myself time to enjoy the vision I am creating, and making these first small steps toward accepting myself as a blossoming businesswoman.

  • I have a few ideas to begin with, which I will be developing and pursuing in the coming weeks.

I am attending to my resistance regarding financial success and perhaps even wealth. I challenge myself to make frequent small steps to extend my comfort level in this area (using some profits to donate to worthy causes, purchasing treats or necessities we might have needed to wait for, submitting to esteemed publications).

  • Embraced generosity, and that there will be financial investments in building my career.

  • Treated myself to inexpensive, extremely pleasurable evening with a friend, and dessert at a fine dining restaurant.

  • Small donation to a friend’s blog -spreading goodwill.

  • Considering adding a donate button to my blog – with a twist. More on this later….

I share my blogs more widely, and my other writings as well. I trust in my instincts, and dare to submit where I feel my work will fit well, and reach readers who will find pleasure or connection with it. I submit to markets that will pay, and I make finding and submitting to markets a regular part of my writing activities.

I have a plan for the year’s noveling projects, and a completed rough draft of my poetry WIP, Queen of My Infinite Spaces.

  • Listed all novels in the double series, thus far, with projected next steps.

I have visited and connected with everyone in class. I cultivate friendships that fulfill me, and where I have something of value to offer.

  • Friend requests to everyone in class.

  • Moving through the group, following members across social networks.

I know much more about how to find readers who value what I offer, and I share and connect

with them.

  • Pondering approaches….

I resume earning money from my writing. I made $11 for all of 2012…I will earn at least $22 by the end of class!).

  • Several projects in the pending stage for submission.

  • Market research begun.

I am settling back into my little office space, which I reclaimed from the three formerly semi-feral kittens as they became more comfortable elsewhere in the house. Felines will be welcome – I believe Srindi is destined to be my office cat – however, it will be my office.

  • Very minor steps toward reclamation; will pick up after all cats spayed and recovered from surgery.

I adapt my ROW80 goals to reflect these, and, going forward, I write goals that will support this plan.

  • Yes, thus far.

ROW80 2013 Round 1:  2/3 Goals Evaluation

Creating:

WIP Novels:

Complete rough draft of Sima Garo Provides. Aim for 2 scenes each week (~3000 words), and notes for each scene.

  • I completed Chapter 12, Scene 4, and Chapter 13, Scene 1, and notes for both.

  • Goal complete for this week.

Read through Chameleon’s Dish and Bounded by a Nutshell, making general notes as I go. Make task lists for next steps for both novels.

  • Chameleon’s Dish- completed.

  • Bounded by a Nutshell -

  • Notetaking complete through chapter 6.

  • Current target met.

  • I will complete Bounded Chapter 7 notes by 2/10 update.

Begin timelines for both series, throughout all WIP and extrapolated novels.

Bounded by a Nutshell:

  • Complete through Chapter Six. Currently on target.

  • I will add Chapter Seven by 2/10 update.

Sima Garo Provides:

  • Complete through Chapter Five. Currently on target.

  • I will add Chapters Six and Seven before 2/10 update.

Flash Fiction:

Create new flash fiction weekly through prompts, challenges, envisioning WIP scenes, and original ideas.

  • I used one of Eden Mabee’s status updates (with permission), and wrote a flash piece with it as the opening line – prompt.

  • I really like the rough draft I created, and will let it rest and compost before playing with it further.

  • This goal reached for this week.

Revise existing pieces in my Writing Bullpen files, with an eye to submitting and/or creating a collection for a potential book. Aim for one biweekly.

  • I have reread and made minor revisions on my flash piece, A Splash of Red.

  • I plan to submit this toShah Wharton’sWords in Sync blog as a potential guest post.

  • I will have this piece revised by the 2/6 update.

Submit at least one short story to a paying market each month.

  • I’ve decided to polish my WIP, Morning Coffee, as this month’s submission.

  • I have also decided to submit it to a publication outside of my comfort zone, although I do not yet know which.

  • I am on target to reach this goal.

Exposition:

Return to 750 words.com. Use this space for free expository writing at least every other day, and strive to complete every day of the round.

  • Wednesday, January 30 – 1043 words (fan fiction -alternate Bounded scenes.)

  • Thursday, January 31 – 775 words (notes for Sima Garo Provides}; fan fiction)

  • Friday, February 1 – 769 words (exposition; rough draft blogpost)

  • Saturday, February 2 – 1967 words ( flash fiction, and a scene for Sima Garo Provides.)

Write book reviews forBowlful of BunniesandFinding Esta, once I have finished reading them.

  • I’m behind on these, but have decided to wait a week or two longer to post them.

  • I will continue working with the rough draft of the Bowlful review, and the impressions of the Esta project.

  • Both will be complete and scheduled by 2/20.

Complete one essay or other piece of expository writing each week.

  • I completed three essays this week – one to each of my major blogs.

  • Goal exceeded for this week.

Connecting:

Blogging:

Create blog rolls for shanjeniah (writers and resources), and Trueborn Jottings (resources and inspiration).

Edit sidebars and layout for all blogs (excepting childrens’ reporting blogs).

  • I took the following steps:

  • Added August CampNaNo Winner’s Badge and WIP Title.

  • Replaced participant NaNo 2012 badge with Winner’s Badge.

  • Moved NaNo 2011 Winner’s Badge to group.

  • Updated Facebook badge.

  • Added Twitter and Pinterest badges.

  • Miscellaneous cleanup and tidying…still mulling some things over, placement-wise.

  • shanjeniah on track for 2/15 completion.

Write at least one post weekly for three major blogs (shanjeniah; TruebornJottings, and The Unfettered Life.

Trueborn Jottings:

shanjeniah:

The Unfettered Life:

Visiting:

Complete all ROW80 sponsor visits twice weekly; comment, and share posts I read.

Sunday, January 27 Updates:

Wednesday, January 30 Updates:

Read weekly at a writer-oriented blog that appeals to me; comment; share; learn; absorb, try, grow.

Submit guest posts, at least once monthly.

  • I have reread A Splash of Red, in preparation for this month’s submission.

  • Goal on target for completion by 2/28.

Social Media:

Visit Pinterest, SheWrites, or StoryDam at least weekly. Get a better sense of how each works, and build my presence there with sharing, commenting, and asking questions.

  • Visits to SheWrites and Pinterest this week – following, pinning, browsing, sharing.

  • Goal completed for this week.

Continue visiting and interacting through FacebookandTwitter, especially via relevant groups, several times a week.

  • Facebook, yes. Twitter, a little less so, although I did participate in a #ROW80#teamsprinty session, there.

  • Goal completed for this week.

Explore Linked In and WANATribe every other week. Both have things to offer, and are my newest social media connections. I want to get to know them better, slowly.

  • Linked Innew connections, sharing, browsing. I think it will be a place I visit occasionally, not frequently, at least for now.

  • WANATribeadded friends, poked around, added posts, and began dipping my toes into Kristen Lamb’sBlogging for Brand class. I tend to take a little bit to warm up to these venues, but I will get there! =D

  • New Goal: Work through Kristen Lamb’s Blogging for Brand class. Make friends, learn, grow, utilize, help, share….

Claiming:

Poetry Book Project:

Complete a rough draft compilation, with dedication, introduction, and conclusion.

  • I have reread all the poems in preparation for writing the rough draft for the conclusion, completing this portion of the goal by my 2/1 deadline.

  • I will complete the rough draft by 2/10.

Gather art and images for inclusion in the book.

  • Nothing this session; will do more of this when draft is complete.

Gather resources for learning how to publish ebooks.

  • I purchased an ebook on publishing, and added one on marketing ebooks.

Owning My Perspective and Experiences:

At least once weekly, use expository writing time to explore memories, wounds, healing, perspective, or personal philosophy.

  • Done. In addition to my three posted essays, all of which delved into self-examination, I completed a rough draft on my feelings and self-questioning while editing a book for a friend…

  • Goal exceeded for this week.

New Goal: Complete Second Quarter Reports for both children (due 3/1)

  • Do just a little at a time, so it’s not a time-suck…ask kids for input, and see what happens.

Read through all 2012 blog posts, and make a list of items to consider or expand upon.

  • Honestly, I forgot this goal was here for a while, but now remember.

  • I read the posts through March late last year, so began with April 2012. I finished the month at The Unfettered Life, and to April 7 at shanjeniah.

Continue my eating and health goals from Round 4, 2012. Aim to get to the Y once alone, and once with the children, each week.

  • Sitting fairly stable in this. No workout Tuesday, at the height of the Full Wolf Moon, due to only 3 hours sleep.

  • I did get the kids to the Y to swim on Thursday, and carried 90 pound Annalise around on my back part of the time..

  • Hometending (very mellow; it’s been a tired week, for me), and firewood stocking (quite a bit; it’s also been a cold week!).

  • I’ve been attending to what I am hungry for, and it seems to far less often be sweets or chippy things. I bought old-fashioned sanded cinnamon stick drops, and we have extra dark chocolate, and frozen grapes, which seem to make my sweet tooth happy more healthfully.

  • I’m remembering to add water, more often.

Reclaiming Our Home:

Clean Annalise’s and Jeremiah’s bedrooms, creating spaces of welcome and haven for them, with room for their favorite things and activities.

  • Annalise’s room - complete, with the exception of several bins we didn’t get to. I will be in for maintenance, and will help her with those as/if she wants.

  • Jeremiah’s room – begun, in a very small way, easing in. I hope to have his floor, minus closet and under his loft, cleaned by 2/10 update.

  • Goal on target for completion.

Clean and reorganize kitchen, so that it supports a home where everyone prepares and serves themselves, and where cleanup is easy enough that we all will choose to participate.

  • This will be my focus for March. I have begun taking note of how things get cluttered there, because Jim will have 10 days off later this month, and has asked me for a list of projects Id like done. I can make the organizing go faster, if I have things more or less ready to BE organized…

Work on general decuttering at least five days a week, focusing on a clutter-prone area when time, attention, and energy allow.

  • I think I squeaked by with five days. I know I took Monday and Tuesday off.

  • I am calling it a success.

A Round of Words in 80 Days

Revised Goals for ROW80 ROWnd 3, 2012

WIP Novels:

Goals being shifted to future rounds

Current goals that have been modified for this round.

Trueborn Series

  • Trueborn:
  • Reread current rough drafts from 1998-9ish and 2000.
  • Create story arc for rewrite.
  • Triage existing research.
  • Consider title change.
  • Blood and Breath:
  • Complete story arc (unless completed before the ROWnd starts).
  • Create a flash fiction piece for each story arc point.
  • Use Scrivener to compile into a pre-rough draft.
  • Consider creating a blog for this novel or perhaps for the series, with pages for each novel as it progresses… (I have created a blog, shanjeniah’s Treuborn Jottings, which will be a home for all the volumes in this series).
  • Chameleon’s Dish:
  • Finish inputting into Scrivener ( completed during break).
  • Compile a print copy for editing, page count, and to see what it looks like!
  • Go through each scene to edit, take notes, and list research questions.
  • Complete basic research based upon library books and websites; looking for information to enhance later digging and prevent hugely obvious gaffes).
  • Experiment with removing Tisira’s story as a YA novel, with a potential optional add-on of the fanfic elements….not sure how this will work, exactly, but I think it might be the best approach to have something marketable without sacrificing my vision.
  • Create a print copy of this experimental version, as well.
  • Watch and/or read Henry VIII – which is the play during which the Globe burned. Get cozy with it the way Nockatee and Henry would be.
  • Begin canvassing for beta readers for both versions…does not need to be the same group for both.

Flash Fiction WIPs:

  • Collect all current pieces in my Writing Bullpen files.
  • Complete/edit/rewrite where indicated.
  • Explore markets.
  • Begin compiling a list for possible ebook anthology.
  • Go through old story notebooks and old papers for source material.

Essay WIPs:

  • Collect all current pieces in my Writing Bullpen file.
  • Compile list for possible ebook collection (by theme; just brainstorming at present).
  • Complete/edit/rewrite as needed.
  • Research markets – BOLDLY GO!

  • End of Year Narrative for Lise (due Sept. 1).
  • Standardized Test for Miah (due Sept.1).
  • IHIPs for both children (due four weeks after receipt of packet from school district).
  • Begin setting up portfolios for both children – invite them to be a part of this process! =)
  • Relax, enjoy, learn, grow, laugh, and … BREATHE!

Reading:

  • Continue reading books as interest and energy levels allow – this works better during periods of gathering input than in periods of intense output or times of processing.
  • Continue to Read  via my Kindle Cloud Reader, as a learning and experimenting process.
  • Continue reading from my To Be Read files during times of input gathering.
  • Continue reading and commenting on blogposts and articles, during times of gathering input..
  • Consider getting a pair of reading glasses for magnification purposes, and so my getting-older eyes can handle all my readin’ and writin’! (I bought a pair on June 29. Very helpful, although bifocal lenses would be more so – I get a little blurry looking through them unless reading, and I look up a lot!).

Other Writing:

  • Play with flash fiction pieces as the mood strikes; aim for two submittable stories each month.
  • Play with essay ideas as desired; aim for two submittable essays each month.

Blogging/Connecting:

  • The Unfettered Life:
  • Focus on using this blog to keep copies of reports, activities, events, and my ponderings on the unschooling facets of our lives.
  • Begin considering a (slightly) more structured organizational system for this blog.
  • Begin using this blog in a way that really supports documenting, so that it does double duty as a personal tool for me in the way it once did, only better.
  •  shanjeniah:
  • Aim to focus weekly attention, non-ROW80 update material here. This may take the form of adding to my pages; creating new ones; other challenges, blog hops, etc; writing samples of various types; musings on writing and life; guest posts; photo essays; or whatever else seems relevant at the time.
  • Consider and perhaps experiment with creating a blog for the Trueborn series. (Started a blog on June 25) This could contain excerpts, bits of what I am working on (character sketches, research, flash fiction, story arcs; inspirational images and quotes, etc. Its purpose would be specifically to share the process of creating the series, from the beginning on….in a way, a window into m world and my mind as none of my other spaces are….I find myself very excited about the above idea….I am coming to see this series at last, after most of a lifetime of living with it, as a cohesive, lovely entity almost ready to emerge from its ancient chrysallis. I want to welcome its rebirth with a new home that embraces while allowing a wide, free space to span and soar. And, in so doing, maybe I will stretch and soar just a bit, myself!
  • Organizing/Tootling my Horn…
  • Continue inputting June 2000 Writing Practice Notebook, if not completed before ROWnd begins.
  • Mine June 2000 Writing Practice Notebook for usablepieces.
  • Choose a new notebook; input into Penzu.
  • Continue sorting and filing files on laptop.
  • Look into having external hard drive repaired, or at least getting the files from it.
  • Continue reading marketing and ebook publishing sites and articles.
  • Draft a loose Mission Statement to guide me through the rest of the ROWnd, and carry me forward into the next.
  • Set aside time each week to winnow email. Read items being saved for later reading, sort or dispose as indicated.
  • Be bold and daring in commenting, sharing, and submitting. Declare myself, learn, grow, and sometimes do things that make me uncomfortable. Open and blossom!
  • Celebrating Life!
  • Add some form of specific motion (t’ai chi, swimming, hiking, biking, skating, dancing, etc) to each week. Keep track of what, where, when, for how long, and how I felt during and after.
  • Fill us all up with joy, and continue cultivating family peace.
  • Spend time cleaning and beautifying my personal internal and external spaces each week.
  • Embrace and be present in all my moments.
  • Allow my emotions to be as they are. Practice expressing them calmly and reflectively.
  • Tend kindly and sweetly to myself and others. =)
