“Take Three” for #Loveuary Day Twenty-Eight

Ritu from But I Smile Anyway created the #Loveuary blog hop,  which feels like a perfect time to explore the next three chapters of my Star Trek: Enterprise  TnT fan fiction story, Love and Loss – a hundred words at a time.

I used randomly gathered word prompts for each day’s story. These appear in bold, and contributors are credited at the end of the post.

I’m a day late with this final post– life had a couple of (mostly pleasant) detours for me, and my focus needed to be elsewhere. To make it up to you, I’ve got a special treat – a story for each of the three arcs. These aren’t necessarily conclusions, but they do feel like natural stopping points, of a sort.

For those wanting more, I will be developing these drabbles (say that three times fast!) into the next two to three chapters of Love and Loss at You can find the entire story-to-date by clicking the title in the first paragraph above.

And now, on to the drabbles – all occur just after the previous posts with their focus characters. I’ve condensed the donor list to a single heading for each person generous enough to throw some words my way.

A word of warning: the first story is not intended for those under 18, due to its more than slightly suggestive nature. NSFW on that one; the other two are PG-rated, at the most, and fine for general consumption.

One more thing: Standard disclaimer applies. I don’t own these characters or the world they inhabit. They just like whispering and shouting stories into my brain, which I share with you freely, as an act of love.

“A Few Other Things” – NSFW!

Travis was smoothing eucalyptus moisturizer while soft music played when Hoshi said, “I’ve got some happy news.”

“Tonight you get to open the box.”

“You’re kidding.”

“Uh-uh. Have fun!”

“Back in a jiffy.”

And he was. “You sure?”

“Go ahead.”

He lifted the lid. “Vibrators?!”

He read labels. “Conical Wizard? Mr. Moose?”

“Mmmm….Mr. Moose.”

“The Proctologist? Clydesdale Stallion? Bubble Witch?!”

“Those sound interesting.”

Shark Attack? Snow Fairy? What are these?”

“I told you, vibrators. And a few other things.”

“Sensuous Sexting. ’Edgar’s Angry Dome makes for happy genitalia.’ Did you rob a sex shop?

“No, lover. They’re poker winnings.”

Like It Didn’t Hurt”

“’Bog roll? Dig Tree?’ What’s this, Trip? A memoir about our survival training in Alice Springs?”

“Well, that’s where those words come from. But this is for T’Pol.” He almost managed to say it like it didn’t hurt; like they didn’t both have to some pretty damned huge rejection issues.

“’Rhombus? Flanelette? Duvee?’ I don’t get it.”

“Well, it’s kind of a game I used to play – helped me sometimes, when I wanted to throw her out the airlock. Try to stump her with words she didn’t know.”

Fanfiction. Smurf. Manslaughter.” Jon handed him the PADD. “Well, does it work?”

Just That?”

“This isn’t about science, Vulcan. We both know that.” He read the list to give her the time to compose herself. Stretch marks. Snowman. Pissed-off cat. Red Panda. Gecko –

“We do.” So soft he almost didn’t here her. It made him remember how he’d found her, and Shran settled beside her, there on the floor. Annuity. Greenstick fracture. Aerobics.

“What will you do, T’Pol?” Tag! You’re it!

“Return to Enterprise. Be near him.”

“Just that?”

“It’s this, isn’t it? Baroness. Ruckle. Posion-dart frog. “A survival mechanism.”

“Yes. Words he’s said, and I’ve researched. Through this, we can touch.”

And thank you to all the prompt contributors who made this story possible!

“But I Don’t”: Sea Changes (Kifo Island Chronicles Volume 1) for WIPpet Wednesday

Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. We’re led by the capable fingers and nimble mind of Emily Witt

Hi there, and, if no one’s welcomed you to March yet, let me be the first!

It’s been a busy week in Shan-land so far…busy enough that I’m a little shocked that it’s only Wednesday! Today’s my first completely at-home day since Saturday, and I’m enjoying being able to do some hometending that’s not fitted hastily into the cracks between going hither and yon. I can’t say I enjoyed the dead mouse my daughter’s kitten gifted me with, but I’ll pretend that I’m grateful. =)

I think I’ve decided what TnT story to offer you (no, I’m not ignoring your comments on last week’s post, it’s just that my cup have runneth over a bit these last few weeks, and I keep meaning to get to them without actually, you know, getting to them…

The general consensus seems to be for sassy, so hopefully my selection is suitably sassy. I’m not sure how long I’ll stay with it, but it will be at least a month or two…maybe all four months of my creative marathon that begins in April and runs through the end of July. I do know I have several chapters, and sharing them with you will give me the chance to revise them, which means everyone benefits (even the readers over at, who will get to enjoy the end results). I like it when everyone wins!

Now I think we’ve kept Ava waiting long enough, and it’s not like she has the time to waste. So let’s jump back into Sea Changes,  from my Kifo Island series.

Ava Garcia was a constant revelation during the writing of her story. Her struggle goes beyond the issue of whether people should be allowed to choose the manner of their death. She encapsulates my personal attitudes about how children deserve to be treated. It’s an honor to share her voice with you!

The Premise:

In advocating for a dying girl seeking emancipation from controlling parents, can an overburdened young woman and a lonely young man find a future together?

This passage has been rough-edited (trust me, you don’t want to see the muddled-beyond-hope original version! I’ll be creating a more structured revision plan once the 24 scenes pass through my local crit group (proceeding very slowly, due to Other Things), and I’ve completed Holly Lisle’s How to Revise Your Novel class.

Your input is gratefully accepted, and might go a long way toward making this a better novel!

Ava reacted impulsively to her father’s salacious accusation about her and Donovan. And now, the aftermath…Ava has just declared that she has the right to live on her own terms….

WIPpet Math:

  • Today is March 1, 2017

  • I have one paragraph for you.

But I Don’t”

Maybe you do, Ava – but I don’t. This is my job, and my home. If he thinks we’re involved that way – not only will I not be able to take your case – I could end up with no cases, no home – and, worse yet, maybe even criminal charges.”

Is Donovan right?

How will Ava’s father react?

Can Ava fix this, or is it already too late?

What happens next?

Next week, we will reach the end of this scene – and, at least for now, this story.

Building Like a Lion: March 1, 2017

Hey there!

This is it – the final update of February! I’ll have a spiffy new list of March goals to share on Sunday, as well as my Round One End-of February update.

All in all it was a good and eventful month, with a lot of new learning, some outings and explorations, and a healthy serving of inspiration and epiphany. I’ve moved forward, if not in every way, at least in several key areas…

How was your February?

What’s on tap for your March?

  • Patreon Posts Complete February and March offerings. Secondary goal. Uh, No. Not yet.

  • Rose and Jeremy novella: Complete Planning/plotting of “Tuesday Afternoon Tea” using The Story Toolkit and existing notes. Develop one-paragraph sketches for remaining 3-5 stories. Primary goal. Overall: step 12/22 in progress; ideas for sketches; nothing written.

“Nothing More”: #Loveuary Day Twenty-Seven

Ritu from But I Smile Anyway created the #Loveuary blog hop,  which feels like a perfect time to explore the next three chapters of my Star Trek: Enterprise  TnT fan fiction story, Love and Loss  – a hundred words at a time.

I’m using word prompts for each day, randomly gathered. Prompt words appear in bold, and today’s contributors are credited at the end of the post.

I’m nearly two days late in posting this – life had a couple of (mostly pleasant) detours for me, and my focus needed to be elsewhere. To make it up, though, I’ll have a little surprise with my Day Twenty-Eight post, which will appear sometime on March 1.

But, for right now, we’re keeping a Vulcan lady waiting.

Today’s drabble occurs just after my previous T’Pol story, She Was Beautiful. Shran and T’Pol have a conversation in a Terran aquarium.

One more thing: Standard disclaimer applies. I don’t own these characters or the world they inhabit. They just like whispering and shouting stories into my brain, which I share with you freely, as an act of love.

Nothing More”

Shran’s presence was serendipity. If T’Pol couldn’t have her t’hy’la’s effervescence, the Andorian carrying his scent would suffice.

“This is a strange place for you, Vulcan.”

“And for you.” Her legs trembled with the desire to go to him, breathe in that scent. She focused on the ballet of the marine animals.

Shran came to her. “More research?”

T’Pol offered the sketchbook.

He flipped through pages. “Archery. A wolfpack. Genus tarantula. Mallard ducks. Essence of Katafray. Definition of ‘nyctophile’. Chemical formulation of serotonin. All beautifully illustrated.” His antennae revealed surprise. “What’s the point, Vulcan?”

“It is scientific research. Nothing more.”

Will Shran take T’Pol’s word for it?
