Building Creative Momentum: March 12, 2017

Hey there!

March can’t seem to decide whether it wants fleece or a mane! After a day or two in the 70s, we were hovering near zero (Fahrenheit, not Celsius!) on Saturday, and today is expected to be cold as well. A bit of a  warmup on Monday, then maybe snow….and there might be a LOT of it!

I’m planning to snuggle in and keep the head of steam I’ve built up for my more creative projects…because steam is warm, right?

How’s the weather where you are?
Do you find certain weather suits specific goals best?
What’s on your agenda for the week ahead?

  • Foul Deeds Will Rise (Trueborn #2): Reread existing material; complete draft (10/50 scenes). Primary goal. Reread: All 39 existing scenes; and the sketchy outline I have for the next. Scene 40/50 in progress; 2,473 new words. Adapting goal: Write 6,666 words/week till complete (by March 31).

  • Fan Fiction (The IDIC Romance): Draft three chapters for Love and Loss, based upon the drabbles I wrote in February. Secondary goal. Shifted one scene, designated scenes for 2/3 chapters, and took notes for drafting once FDWR is completed.

  • Kifo Island: Complete The Story Toolkit for April novel; flesh out with pages from The Writer’s Coloring Book. Flesh out AeonTimeline.  File new series bible materials. Primary goal. I’ve reread FDWR; so time to get started here. I began by rereading the one page I’d completed. Wordbuilding; Antagonist, Main Conflict, and Stakes; and Major Plot Points sections complete. New materials filed as completed. Overall: Step 4/22 complete. Adapting: Deleting TWCB for this draft, in order to test the Toolkit on its own.

  • Rose and Jeremy novella: Complete Planning/plotting of “Tuesday Afternoon Tea” using The Story Toolkit and existing notes. Develop one-paragraph sketches for remaining 3-5 stories. Tertiary goal. Overall: step 12/22 in progress. I’ll restart this when I get to this point in the Kifo story, but it will remain a lower priority, due to CampNaNo.

  • The IDIC Romance: Progress with revisions for On Any Tuesday Night (was First Contact, With Jazz), as I work through lessons 2- of Holly Lisle’s Revision Course. Continue revisions for A Backdrop of Stars  1-7. Primary goal. OATN Worksheets: p 9/82 (Scene 3) in progress– Will pick up once I have a completed ABOS rewrite draft. ABOS: 2,001 words/ 898 new of Chapter Two rewrite drafted; secondary to FDWR until that’s completed..

Social Media:

  • #atozchallenge: Complete and schedule all posts by March 31; make page on; write theme reveal post and schedule for reveal date still TBD (keep eyes open for this). Secondary goal. Kept eyes open: Theme Reveal Day is March 20. Adapted goal: Have all materials scheduled and ready to launch By March 18 (6 days hence).Week Two (B-G/April 3-8): Added logos/tags and schedule. Week One(A-April 1): Tweaked A post to reflect format I decided on after scheduling it. Week Five (T-Z/April 24-30) Moved posts to blog interface – and now they’re all there, ready for finishing! (Overall, 7/26 posts scheduled at site; moving along nicely now.)

  • Blogging Features: Continue biweekly Mindful Monday and Skywatch Friday posts, as well as weekly #SoCS, #8sunday, WIPpet Wednesday, and Weekend Coffee share posts. I’ll Do It Shortly…..#SoCS for March 11, 2017

I’ve had a lifelong habit of practicing the opposite of brevity. My stories, verbal or written, were long. Maybe that’s because the words they were made out of tended to be long, too.

But, as the years I’ve lived grow longer, and I’ve got maybe fewer years ahead than I might like, as my life is filled with dreams and children and ….well, living.

And, in the process, I’m learning how to be brief.

At least sometimes. At least for some things.

Shorter stories. Shorter posts. Sometimes, shorter workouts.

This post, too.

I’m keeping it short, because there’s life to live.

See you all next week, and may the living you do hold more sunlight than shadows.

This very short post is a part of Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday, where this week’s prompt is “short,” used however we want. Find the rules of engagement here, and take a dip in the stream here.

And a very short song, to cap things off.
